Music and Arts for the Shepway Community is a charity set up to bring music and the arts to everybody in Shepway (Folkestone, Hythe, Dymchurch, New Romney, Lydd, Hawkinge, Densole, and all surrounding towns and villages). Who We Help

MASC works with four key demographics to bring music and the arts to those most in need, whilst uniting everybody in the community.

Our four key demographics are:

- Children

- Those over retirement age

- People living with mental and/or physical disabilities

- People living in social and/or economic deprivation

By including friends and family in as many or our projects as we can, we also ensure everyone has the chance to access music and the arts.

CHAIRPERSON

Meet our Chairperson, Sam Wraight! Sam joined the Shepway Voices choir many years ago, was always on hand to help the running of the charity.

After spending time as the Fundraising Officer, Sam stepped up and is now our wonderful Chairperson, as is truly amazing at it too! Sam is keen to take MASC through the recent challenging times and into a future of successful community music projects.

TREASURER

Say hello to John! After singing with our groups for many years, John stepped up to the board as our treasurer. He has invaluable experience in this field, and we are so very grateful to him for choosing to help!

We are in very safe hands with John, and as such we are blessed to have him working with us. Thank you John!

A huge thank you must go to Natalie Moreton, Hazel Hughes, Jessica Williams, and Anneli Round, who together raised £536.30 by taking part in the Virtual Vitality London 10K.

The runners could run on a course of their choice, any time between 29th May and 6th June 2021. Wonderful effort to you all, and thank you again for your fundraising efforts for MASC!

Duncan's Singathon

Our very own Duncan Moris, in a fit of madness, decided to put together a Marathon Singathon! He would arrange a virtual concert lasting 26.2 hours! What a success it was too.

With Duncan taking the singing lead for the majority of the marathon, his voice was almost non existent by the end! He was joined by some guest performers to help him through the marathon, and we would like to thank Peter Cole, Teresa Cole, Alex McNeice, Stephen Hawkins, Maddie Meston, Noah Meston, Lozzie Meston, Alex Boughton, Megan Williams, and Esme Williams for their wonderful singing and contributions, as well as everyone who listened and tuned in, even at crazy times like 2am!

The event raised over £700 for MASC, so well done to everyone, and especially Duncan!

SSSHHHHH..... Don't tell anyone about Secret Art Club.....

Ok then, tell everyone! Katherine Langley has run a couple of Secret Art Clubs for children during lockdown. They get a pack sent to them and find a video on how to make their brilliant pieces of art! How wonderful!

The kids loved it, and the response from everyone was fab, so well done to all this who took part, and well done to Ketherine for putting together such an awesome project. Here's to the next one!

Sarah Judge has put together a lovely arts project called Let's Get Arty. THANK YOU SARAH!

Every month the children participating were sent the materials and instructions on how to create a piece of art based on a famous artist. What a wonderful way to learn about different styles!

The children created in the styles of Rousseau, O'Keeffe, Matisse, Pollock, Van Gough, and Kandinsky. The responses and feedback show how well this has been received, so thank you again!

To mark 365 days since our last rehearsal, Jen Howden arranged for a group of our singers and supporters to walk collaboratively 365 miles in one month, with the final day being exactly a year since the previous in person rehearsal.

Many thanks to Jen Howden, Lyn Hewitt, Sandie Hines, Mel Wynn, and Sam Wraight for coming together to walk SO FAR!!!!!

A wonderful achievement that has raised over £1000 for MASC. A brilliant job all round. Thank you to those who joined in, those who supported, and those who donated!
